Professional Painting of 3D Products - Makerly

Professional Painting of 3D Products

Premium finishing of parts printed with Multi Jet Fusion technology using industrial polyurethane, epoxy, and acrylic coatings.

We provide uniform color, smooth surfaces, scratch and chemical resistance, UV protection, and precise color matching according to RAL or any other color code. Matte, satin, or glossy finishes are available, as well as the application of markings and graphic elements.

This treatment makes 3D parts visually appealing, durable, and suitable for end-use products, demonstration prototypes, and small-batch production.

How We Paint 3D Parts: Step-by-Step Process

From complex prototypes to serial production parts — precision, durability, and design freedom

  • 01 Correction of geometric deviations

We inspect the part and mark areas that require refinement. The surface is degreased, defects are filled, and planes are smoothed using abrasives.

  • 02 Surface preparation for texture

We apply primer and then sand the part after drying to achieve perfect uniformity. This stage creates the foundation for the chosen finish — matte, satin, or glossy.

  • 03 Painting and final coating

The enamel is applied in several layers to ensure wear resistance and achieve a rich, consistent color. The final coat forms the chosen texture and gives the part a finished appearance.

  • 04 Masking and combined textures

When needed, we create separate coating zones using stencils and masking tape. We can combine textures, such as matte and gloss, on a single part.

  • 05 Polishing (if required)

If a perfect mirror effect is needed, we polish the part with special compounds and abrasives.

  • 06 Marking and final inspection

If necessary, we apply markings and graphics, first testing the precision of placement. We inspect coating quality, dry the part, package it, and prepare it for shipment.

What’s needed to calculate the cost of painting

To accurately select the coating technology, estimate the budget, and guarantee quality, we need some basic information about your product and its requirements. Below is a short checklist that helps you quickly prepare all necessary data and avoid extra clarifications during the process.

  • Product color

Indicate the color code according to RAL, NCS, or send a physical sample for precise matching. This step defines key specifications and ensures consistency when scaling production batches.

  • Surface type / texture

Choose the required texture from the available options: matte or glossy (up to 10 texture variations). This parameter affects surface preparation and the final coating.

  • Operating conditions

Describe how the part will be used: exposure to sunlight, temperatures, moisture, chemicals. This helps determine the needed material resistance and the correct type of enamel.

  • Coating durability requirements

Specify whether you need increased resistance to scratches, impacts, aggressive environments, or a more delicate tactile feel. This determines the coating system and thickness.

  • Marking and graphics (if needed)

If you require a logo or other graphic element, send the design in SVG, AI, EPS, CDR, or PDF formats. Include information about size, color, and placement.

Professional Painting vs Dyeing

Dyeing is a fast way to tint parts, but it comes with limitations in color selection, durability, and final surface quality. Professional painting provides an industrial-grade coating with precise tone and shade control, scratch and UV protection, the possibility of combined textures, and the option to apply markings. Below is a comparison of both approaches to help you choose the best option for your project.

Criterion Professional Painting Dyeing
Color palette Almost unlimited, can match by code Limited to a few colors, no code matching
Coating durability High, scratch-resistant, no residue, does not wash off Low, no scratch protection, leaves residue, washes off
UV resistance Absolute High
Surface appearance From texture to mirror gloss, premium Always textured, decent but not premium
Coating thickness Up to 100 μm Penetrates pores, no added thickness
Impact on geometry/tolerances Minimal, adjustable Minimal, appears on thin walls, not adjustable
Coverage of complex zones Medium, requires masking High, dye penetrates everywhere
Processing time 3–10 days, may increase 2–5 days, depends on volume
Environmental impact Requires special disposal Easy, parts remain eco-friendly
Cost Individual calculation, sometimes more expensive than printing +10% to printing cost

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can any 3D parts be painted?

We specialize in painting parts produced using Multi Jet Fusion technology.

  • How long does the painting process take?

The standard time frame is 3 to 7 business days, depending on complexity, finish requirements, and batch size.

Urgent orders are possible — please check with a manager.

  • Can I request a unique color and texture?

Yes. We match colors using RAL/NCS or a physical sample.

Textures are available in matte, satin, and gloss finishes, including combined options.

  • Do you provide coating durability?

Yes, our industrial coatings are resistant to scratches, UV exposure, and chemicals.

  • Can you apply a logo or marking?

Yes, we apply graphics, logos, symbols, and labels.

A vector file (SVG/AI/EPS/CDR/PDF) and precise placement details are required.

*The assessment of the cost and feasibility of metal printing is based on several factors — not only the weight (volume) of the part, but also its geometry, the complexity of post-processing, and other technological parameters. Therefore, the preparation of the estimate may take longer than the usual 30–60 minutes, extending to several hours or even up to two working days. In addition, since the production facility is located outside Ukraine, it is important to consider all relevant logistics factors.
